Project Wiggles and Giggles Engages Communities, Empowers Families, and Equips Children
Project Wiggles And Giggles is an early intervention program that focuses on identifying developmental delays in children from birth to three years of age and providing proper therapy to fit their needs. The program is strictly voluntary on the part of the child’s family and no fees are charged for services provided. (For more about typical development of children in this age group, please visit Zerotothree.org). Early intervention supports and services focus on teaching the parents and other caregivers ways to help the child learn and participate in everyday activities. Alabama’s Early Intervention System (AEIS) also prepares infants and toddlers with disabilities and developmental delays for transition to the Alabama State Department of Education’s and local school systems’ preschool program for 3- to 5-year-olds by providing specialized instruction; physical, occupational, and speech-language therapies; service coordination; and parent and family education. Additionally, AEIS provides training to local school system teachers to ensure a smooth, seamless transition to school for infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities.
If you are concerned about your child’s development, call the statewide, toll-free Early Intervention Child Find number, 1-800-543-3098 (or TTY 800-499-1816). Spanish-speaking families may call 1-866-450-2838.
