Description COVID-19 UPDATE
  • Early Care Programs: Accepting phone calls to answer questions for all services under Early Care Programs (home visiting, Children with Special Health Care Needs, car seat, BF, Childbirth, Maryland Health Connection, Warmline, etc.). The office is being staffed with 2 workers M-F 8:30- 4:30p.
  • Early Care Programs Healthy Families and Early Head Start Home-Based Home Visiting staff are teleworking. At this time, all home visiting is paused and we are switching to Virtual Home Visits. We are continuing to complete outreach and new client enrollment.
  • Breastfeeding and Childbirth Classes: The expectant parent(s) sign up for the class. If we are not back to business as usual by the time the class date comes up: 1. Our Nurse Educator reaches out, 2. Provides support, 3. Gives them a code to access the class book to get to the full book that correlates with the in-class PowerPoint instruction, additional videos, handouts, etc. 4. Mails the hardcopy of the book, and 5. Provides contact information for continued support. *One-on-one support is also being offered for breastfeeding / lactation support / childbirth needs via telework staff.
  • Maryland Health Connection: The Maryland Health Connection offices at the Garrett County Health Department will be staffed week days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in both Oakland and Grantsville to assist clients over the phones with insurance needs. Please call 301-334-7720 for Oakland or 301-895-5699 for Grantsville; no walk ins will be accepted at this time.

HOME VISITING: Home visiting Service for pregnant women and families with newborns up to 3 months old. Services include breast feeding, parenting skills, keeping children safe indoors and out, information and referrals to community services, as well as linkages to medical providers for services such as immunizations and prenatal care. Breast feeding classes are also available. 

CHILD BIRTH CLASS: Provides classes that prepare parents for child birth. Classes are held at the Health Department in the 1st floor conference room. Classes offered on weekdays and weekends must call in advance to register.
