Description COVID-19 UPDATE: Provides private counseling by phone, offers virtual support groups and provides grief support and education to managers and staff of local businesses or organizations that have suffered loss.  Grief counselors will be hosting virtual grief support groups through out the week at different times during the shelter in place. BEREAVEMENT SERVICES: Provides a wide variety of grief support services, at no charge, to anyone in the community, regardless of whether or not they were served by Hospice. These include:
  • GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS: Provides support to individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one. Participants can share their stories and express their grief. The evening group meets 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 5PM-6:30PM, and the daytime group meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 2PM-3:30PM. No need to pre-register.
  • TEEN GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP: A 6-week support group for 13 to 18-year-olds who are grieving the death of a family member or peer. The group will utilize creative modalities to explore emotion and teach emotional regulation and coping skills. Time will be spent fostering healthy communication and the ability to identify and articulate emotions. Wednesdays, September 18th - November 20th; 6PM-7:30PM. Please register by Friday, September 13th, 2019
  • OVERDOSE SUPPORT GROUP: This is a 10-week support group is for anyone over the age of 18 who has had a family member die because of alcohol or drug overdose. This support group will spend time exploring addiction from the brain disease model and will help you to address a variety of issues through sharing of stories to increase social support, learning coping skills to guide you through your grief journey, and finding ways to memorialize your loved one. Wednesdays, September 18th - November 20th; 6PM-7:30PM. Please register by Monday, September 16th, 2019
  • PERINATAL AND INFANT LOSS SUPPORT GROUP: This 8-week grief support group is designed for those who are grieving the loss of their child by miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, or other perinatal illness or accident, up to 18 months of age. This group provides a safe space to share painful thoughts and feelings, and to connect with others grieving the loss of their child. Thursdays, October 3rd - November 21st; 6PM-7:30PM. Please register by September 30th, 2019
  • SPOUSAL/PARTNER SUPPORT GROUP: This 8-week grief support group is designed for those whose spouse/life partner has died. During this time participants will explore and share the issues specific to the death of a spouse/life partner. This group will also spend time exploring how to navigate the holidays without your spouse/partner. Tuesdays, October 29th - December 17th; 6-7:30PM. Please register by Friday, October 25th, 2019. 
  • TELLING YOUR STORY: JOURNALING THROUGH GRIEF: When someone whe love dies, we are given a "plot twist" in our life story that we never would have written for ourselves. Journaling can help to process and integrate that loss into a cohesive, meaningful narrative. Workshop participants will use prompts to explore their experience both from the lens of memory, as well as from creative and analogical perspectives, enabling a holistic integration of loss into your life story. 2nd Saturday of the month, October 12th - March14th; 11AM-2PM. Please register by Monday, October 7th, 2019. 
  • COPING WITH THE HOLIDAYS: Participants discuss practical ideas to help cope with the upcoming holidays. Learn ways to commemorate your loved ones, especially this time of the year. Monday, November 18th, 2019; 6PM-7:30PM. Please register by Monday, November 11th, 2019.

Program
Eligibility Persons with a life threatening illness and their families. Individuals grieving the loss of a loved one.
Languages Offered Special arrangements possible.
Program Fees Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance.

Volunteer Requirements Adults 18 and older, requires a backround check and training.
Volunteer Duties Help with administrative duties, fundraising, bereavement calls and provide care to patients and their families.
